Animal Identification & Traceability
If you're looking for tags, you've come to the right place! Our IMI Global team works exclusively with Allflex USA to offer our customers the best identification technology on the market today. The majority of the value-added programs we work with require individual, electronic identification (known as Program Complaint Tags (PCTs)), but we also believe that no matter how or where you are marketing your cattle, the basis to any added value starts with an electronic ID. We can work with Allflex to customize your tags to meet your exact needs - from special colors, to unique management numbers or including your ranch name or brand - we can make it happen.
Sometimes it is easy to forget that being able to trace an animal throughout the supply chain actually means something. First and foremost, it means value. The majority of our export markets require some type of animal traceability, age verification or feed verification, which translates today into significant per head value in our calf market today. And, this is demand only growing! Call us to learn more.
Secondly, it also means safety. In the event of an animal disease outbreak, being able to trace an animal, and those that were in contact with it, becomes vital to the response to that disease. The Animal Disease & Traceability (ADT) ruling requires that all sexually intact cattle and bison over 18 months of age, all dairy cattle (female and male, intact or castrated) and any cattle or bison used for rodeo, shows exhibition or recreational use must be tagged with an official form of identification. Although this does not yet apply to market cattle, many states continue to increase their intra- and inter-state identification requirements on all animals due to the increased need for traceability, making the use of electronic identification that much more important. Read our ADT Cheat Sheet here.
Lastly, it also means having a competitive edge. Verification and traceability continue to be a condition of differentiation in the global marketplace. Many countries utilize our lack of a national traceability program as a selling point for their beef products. For example, market access to China would be a great value opportunity for the U.S. beef industry, but will likely be tied to requirements for identification and traceability.
